Karen Drexler

Dr. Karen Drexler, MD
Dr. Karen Drexler, MD, is board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry and is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University, where she also serves as an Attending Psychiatrist in the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program. She previously served eight years as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force and held numerous leadership roles within the Veterans Health Administration, including National Mental Health Program Director for Substance Use Disorders, before retiring in 2020. From 2020 to 2024, she served as Medical Director of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. Her research interests include addiction treatment, health services research, and the neurobiology of addiction.
